Description
Mito-E (SS-31) is a synthetic, mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide designed to selectively associate with the inner mitochondrial membrane. Unlike many peptides that act through surface receptors, this is studied for its ability to directly interact with cardiolipin, a phospholipid critical to mitochondrial structure and function.
This peptide has been investigated for its role in mitochondrial bioenergetics, reduction of oxidative stress, and preservation of electron transport chain efficiency. Research commonly focuses on its effects on cellular energy production, mitochondrial integrity under stress conditions, and mechanisms related to aging, metabolic dysfunction, and ischemia-reperfusion models.
